Richard Keeley became friends with Jane Jacobs over the last twenty years of her life. He served as Director

of Boston College’s service-learning program, PULSE, from 1975–91, and it was this connection that piqued

Jacobs’s interest in the university. Keeley organized several campus conferences featuring Jacobs and her
