About the event
Join us as we listen to the playlist featured in Mapping Malcolm, hosted by Dr. Darien Alexander Williams, assistant professor from Boston University and contributor to the anthology exploring the geographic impact of Malcolm X.
Learn how jazz, soul, and African rhythms became powerful organizing tools in 1960s Black freedom movements. Dr. Williams will share brief insights into the music that opened Malcolm X's speeches across New York and Boston before playing a few recordings—from Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln to Olatunji's drums and Louis Farrakhan's calypso.
In an effort to connect with an incarcerated Muslim sibling this Ramadan, the Queer Muslims of Boston/QMOSQUE will host a letter writing station so that attendees may write physical and digital letters to send them.
Browse, listen, and learn about the sonic landscape that helped build Muslim community and revolutionary consciousness.
